    Discovering Hampshire

Well, more specifically, Basingstoke. We have a friend from Basingstoke who almost choked on his beer when we told him we were having a romantic weekend away in his home town, followed by the question, ‘why?’. Well first off Mum and Dad bought James and I a voucher for money off a brand of hotels and the cheapest one happened to be in Basingstoke. Plus the hotel looked really nice, was set amongst it’s own grounds and not too far away from Bristol. We took the Monday off work and headed up on the Friday so we could make the most of the trip. The Lake District

Five hours: In the grand scheme of things, not a very long time. But a lot can be done in five hours if you apply yourself, and you can get to some pretty interesting places, with Greek islands, parts of the Middle East and Africa, and even Moscow within flying time of the UK. We’d still like to celebrate the legal bit so have decided to visit The Pig in Bath. We’ve frequented the restaurant a few times now and…

Hotel Du Vin’s new Summer menu

I’ve lost count of the times James has had to tell me it’s pronounced ‘van’ not ‘vin’. I’ve been saying it wrong for so long now, my brain just can’t accept it. I’ll get there eventually but in the mean time if I start harping on to you about how great the food at Hotel Du Van is, I’m sure you’ll understand what I mean. So last week James and I went along to a blogger’s evening at Hotel Du Vin in Cheltenham to sample their new menu, along with some cocktails and a tour around the hotel. It was also a great chance to catch up with other local…
