Here I will document people in and around Cheltenham I meet on any given day. Most subjects will be random but if you would like to be featured, get in touch.

    A meaty treat

We’ve recently moved from Bristol to the outskirts of Cheltenham and one of the hardest things about moving away from Bristol has been leaving the thriving food scene behind; we were never short of options for somewhere fantastic to go out for dinner.  So after only a couple of weeks in our new home town we were delighted to get an invite to the opening of a new steak restaurant in Cheltenham’s food and entertainment area- The Brewery Quarter. A really good, well cooked steak (well cooked on a good hot charcoal grill, rather than ‘well done’) is a wonderful thing, but all to often restaurants serve up poor quality,…

Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon at Cheltenham Art Gallery

I love photographs of people, whether you are doing street photography, catching subjects off guard or more posed shots, like portrait photography. An icon such as Audrey Hepburn can get away with both such styles. Looking elegantly poised in any photograph. The exhibition ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an icon’ highlights not just Audrey Hepburns beauty but also documents her life. From her early years as a ballet dancer and chorus girl right through to her later life doing philanthropic work. The exhibition is currently on a tour in Cheltenham’s The Wilson art Gallery in the town centre. A great opportunity for those who haven’t been able to make it to the…

    Portraits of Cheltenham: The Newborn

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while. I could come up with a million excuses like wedding planning, working etc but the main reason is probably not always having the confidence to approach random people. I was put to the test with my next portrait. Luckily he was feeling generous with his time and allowed me a snap-shot. Meet Oscar. My oldest friend Emma gave birth to this little guy just over 3 weeks ago. He’s a teeny-tiny bundle of cuteness that kept us both entertained whilst out for lunch. It’s impossible to not get a little broody, just look at that face.

Portraits of Cheltenham: The Rock Climber

I went for a walk up Cleeve Hill with an idea in mind for my next portrait. I was hoping to come across a couple of walkers that I could capture with the views of the whole of Cheltenham behind them. Instead, I stumbled upon a rock climber seated at the edge of one of the cliffs. You often see the adrenaline junkies up Cleeve Hill, they’re either riding bikes up and over the steep slopes or snowboarding when the ground is blanketed in the white stuff, this was the first time I’d seen rock climbers. I captured him as he was adjusting the wires so that his friend below could…

    Portraits of Cheltenham

I’ve always enjoyed taking photographs of people. You can get so many different emotions from an image based on the subjects expression, how the photograph was taken, where it was taken, the lighting etc. My dad and I attended a Street Photography course run by Lacock Photography, here we learnt all about how to approach people when wanting to take their photograph. I badgered the photographer who ran the course afterwards for advice on lenses and with this he also provided an idea for my blog. Welcome, Portraits of Cheltenham. Here I will document people in and around Cheltenham I meet on any given day. Most subjects will be random but if you…
