Babel, Cheltenham

Cheltenham’s Brewery just got sexy with it’s newest addition Babel, a new cocktail bar with an interior to lust after for days.

I received an invitation to their opening night a few weeks ago and think I may have found my new favourite jaunt in Cheltenham. It offers a little bit of everything; with brunch served on the weekends between 9-4, a full all-day menu consisting of light bites, ‘clean and lean’ options and all your favourites like burgers with varied fillings. The cocktail menu is extensive so you will need a few trips to Babel to sample them all.

On arrival with my sister in tow, we were greeted with a glass of fizz and chose a booth in the corner of the restaurant.

It wasn’t long before one of the waitresses arrived with a slider of burgers for us to sample. One chicken, one veggie and the other beef. All packed with flavour, we couldn’t decide which one we liked best.

We also got to try the crisp dried flatbread, that came with pumpkin hummus. Perfect snack to accompany the cocktails that had just arrived.

Some of my favourite dishes were from the healthier options on the menu including the pickled beetroot that came with whipped goats cheese, roasted pecans, quinoa and micro greens. A light and delicate dish that offered bags of flavour and a combination of textures.

Another winner that accompanied the lighter meals were the deep-fried edamame beans. Perhaps moving slightly away from being healthy but they were a great discovery. I could easily have picked at those all evening.

Babel has something to offer everyone, exceeding my expectations on both the food and drink fronts. With so many places adding cocktails to the menu, I was impressed to see so many unique and different mixes on offer.

I’m looking forward to returning to try out their brunch menu and start ticking off some of those cocktails!
