I was recently contacted by a company called Awemix Watches, an exciting new social enterprise that donates 20% from every £20 watch sold, to charity. Certainly a watch to be proud of for the owners of Awemix Watches and those wearing them.
I’ve since been wearing one of the watches designed to show support for the charity, Keeping Abreast for Breast Cancer. The charity supports women either with breast cancer or the hereditary BRCA gene, who are considering or undergoing immediate or delayed breast reconstruction.
Some of the money raised from Awemix Watches will go towards funding the services they offer which include: information, support and practical help, as well as the opportunity to meet others facing a similar diagnosis at one of their many support groups. They also offer the chance to see the results of reconstructive surgery.
The watches are well designed and a real statement piece that sparks conversation and helps raise awareness to the causes they represent. It’ll be great to see other charities getting involved and the design ideas that unfold.
Awemix Watches have now partnered with numerous universities across the country, from Aberdeen to UEA, as well as Raise the Bar; a spoken word events company. They can also be found in five stores around East Anglia, with further national expansions planned.
