Wild beer Co, Cheltenham

You’d never guess it but the Wild Beer Co are all about their beer.

Well, I say that but they also knock up some great food too.

Jessop House in Cheltenham is where you’ll find them, which is also their first and currently only bar and restaurant.

If you are a beer fan, you are in for a proper treat. They stock all of their own crafted beers and others brewers beers they hold in high regard.

Anyway, enough about the beer for now, lets talk food.

My friend Steph and I went to try out some of their small plates. The best excuse for picking at food.

The main bar is on the ground floor, the top floor is another bar with some cosy settings and in the basement you’ll get fed in the restaurant.

The menu had a great selection of small plates and main dishes, you may need to tell the waiter to come back a couple of times.

We decided on some smoked mackerel pate, squid, spicy potatoes and seasoned veg.

All food was prepared to a high standard, chorizo is always a winner but the highlight for me was the jelly accompanying the mackerel – it was delish! Sweet and complimented the fish beautifully.

The potatoes could perhaps have been a bit spicier but that’s personal preference.

We had lucked in seating-wise as the owner was sat at the table parallel to us. Obviously a little disappointed in our lack of beer on the table, he went to get us some samples.

A champagne beer and a salted caramel beer. I got a hint of champagne in the first beer, but you are hit with a lovely sweetness with the salted caramel. It went down very easily, I could almost be converted!

We rounded off the meal with a couple of puds; a slice of banana bread and a shnoodlepip doughnut.

The banana bread was warm with this gooey banana topping, it was ah-mazing! The doughnuts tasted just like the ones you get at fairgrounds, you know you shouldn’t like them but they are just so-darn-good.

These doughnuts had a little more class with mango and passionfruit puree and covered in pink peppercorn sugar. I think my favourite of the whole meal.

A great new place to go just for drinks and an even better place for food. Go check it out!
