    Oh, hello Spring

There are some surefire signs that Spring has finally sprung. The lighter evenings, the blossom filled trees dotted along the streets, even a bit of sunshine that has painted small freckles across my face. You will also know it’s Spring and crave for more of that sunshine when you step into any HomeSense store. Christmas decorations from HomeSense

Working in eCommerce, the word Christmas comes about fairly early. Planning for it comes about when most of us are still looking forward to our summer holiday. So when I got invited to a Christmas event for TKMaxx and HomeSense in July, I wasn’t entirely surprised. The event was in London and I found out my lovely friend Kay (and Mummy Blogger extraordinaire) was also attending. We met up an hour or so before the event for a couple of cocktails and a catch up. That week the UK was in the middle of a heatwave so it felt a little odd walking into a large room decked out with…

    Getting ready for Spring

After what’s felt like a very long Winter (even if it was a relatively mild one), and months of cold, wet, dark dog walks, the days are finally starting to get a bit longer and the sun occasionally shows its welcome face. You wouldn’t know it to look at the thermometer, but Spring is nearly upon us! The prospect of finally being able to let a bit of fresh air into the house and have a good Spring clean is an exciting one, but more exciting still is the thought that soon we’ll be able to utilise those spaces which have been forsaken during the cold of the Winter, like…

HomeSense – Dusting away those January blues

I get a little sad that the general vibe around January is that it is a depressing month. Most of us will be returning back to work, early Christmas paydays will mean lots of staying in and we’ll all have huge regret over the amount of food we ate over the festive break. Many will have started resolutions, some already given up but hey, that’s life. I’m not going to judge. One of our joint resolutions is to do some organising around the house. Make sure everything has it’s place and introduce some homely additions. Coincidentally HomeSense asked me to check out their new extensive range of faux flowers and what…

    Christmas is coming

The words some people hate to hear. Not around here I’m afriad. Admittedly it seems to come around quicker every year but I tend to regress about 20 years (wow, that makes me feel old) and get all excited about the impending season considerably early. Yes, it can be expensive but what’s not to love about giving and receiving presents, eating copious amounts of food (and it being acceptable), and spending time with your nearest and dearest. Festivities for me began on the 1st November when we went to watch Oxford Street’s big Christmas Light Switch on. A slight anti-climax when the lights didn’t all go on simultaniously but instead…

Christmas prep begins with Sloe Gin

James’ parents have a lovely farm on the beautiful west coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales. Visiting is the perfect opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life for a couple of days, go for long walks, not worry about what time it is and just relax. The end of one of their fields is home to a considerable number of blackthorn trees, which bear the sloe berry. And we all know the only reason sloe berries grow is so that we can pick them and make a delicious gin aperitif from them. When we returned home, sloes in hand, we removed any unwanted bits of twigs, leaves etc…

    Vegetarian inspired baking with HomeSense

Once upon a time before Quorn mince, substitute veggie chicken and tofu there was Sosmix. A popular meat alternative for vegetarians that could be used to make up sausages, burgers, pies etc. Since then it has slowly gone out of fashion and is increasingly difficult to get your hands on. Which I discovered to be a true tradegy after James and I made up some spectacular sausages rolls with the stuff. With this I got to use some of my new HomeSense baking buys that helped along the way. The store has a whole host of equipment for all your baking and cooking needs. Frequently I’ll find something I didn’t know I…

    HomeSense August Bank holiday treats

So far we’ve had a pretty pathetic summer, the rain has graced it’s presence considerably more than the sunshine. The temperature has dropped that I’m convinced I fell asleep for the whole summer and have now woken up to Autumn. Not a completely terrible thought, I love the colours on the trees, dusting off my autumnal coat, lazy darker mornings in bed, the crispness in the air and the cosy evenings. I’ve even already bought two pairs of Chelsea boots in preparation. I’ve got a summer holiday in a few weeks so I still get a hit of summer, so I’m selfishly not complaining too much. I recently made the…
