    Holidaying on a boat

Last month James and I went away to Falmouth for a long weekend with some friends. We had been talking about going away together for months and finally got something pretty special booked up. We scoured the internet before stumbling upon a spot just on the outskirts of Falmouth town centre. What made it so special you ask? Well, it was in fact a boat. A boat with all the necessities: the top floor was all open plan with a big kitchen, dining area, and a large lounging space with lots of glass to enjoy the views. It gave the impression that you could almost walk out onto the outdoor…

    Rack ’em up

On a recent holiday we were reintroduced to pool, both the wet and splashy type, and the balls in pocket version. The first was a necessity; it was mighty hot in Rhodes and during the day being in the sea or a pool, or an air-conditioned room, was the only option. Later in the evenings though it was a touch cooler and our pre or post dinner entertainment often included shooting a bit of pool (the hotel cabaret wasn’t up to much!). I’m very competitive, but Steph isn’t normally, so I was surprised when I saw an edge to her rarely seen before. We, ahem ‘pooled’ our resources (sorry!) sometimes…

    Our Wedding Suppliers

A DIY wedding is both a great big annoyance and the most wonderful way to plan your big day. The annoying part is not really knowing what you are doing and worrying on a daily basis that your guests won’t enjoy the fact you’ve gone off piste and planned a traditional wedding. But for us the positives outweighed the negatives and we decided to go all in, taking the elements from what we liked about weddings and tie that into what was essentially going to be a great, big party. We were able to have full reign on when things happened, what caterers we chose, the booze we ordered, where…

    We got married!

It’s been nearly a month since James and I got married and I’ve finally adjusted to life without planning a wedding. We took the whole planning thing very relaxed right up until the last week so I didn’t think I’d miss it so much, but it’s strange not having this big event to work towards. I guess I’ve been suffering slightly from post-wedding blues but we’ve recently been sent our wedding photographs and have been able to enjoy the day all over again. It’s true what they say about the whole thing going by so quickly and the pressure you put upon yourself to make sure you’ve spoken to everyone.…

    The Fire Station, Cheltenham

The Fire Station in Cheltenham has been open a while now; after not being able to make the grand opening and what with life being pretty hectic, it wasn’t until recently that we finally went to check it out. With the family in tow, one Saturday evening we entered the 110 year old building, that bares no resemblance to it’s age. We headed to the bar area to grab a drink before taking a seat at our table. The bar area is large, with restaurant seating not too far away on the ground floor as well as on the upper floor. The bar is quite noisy, especially on a Saturday night, so…

    The Tavern, Cheltenham

I have been to The Tavern for drinks before but have been meaning to try it for food for ages so when two of my best friends and I were arranging a meet up I suggested it and received no objections. We met mid last week for a much needed catch up on life, work, babies and weddings. It’s got the perfect atmosphere for a chilled out meet for drinks or a no fuss meal. It was surprisingly busy for a week night so we were seated upstairs. One of my best friends Emma, who will be my maid of honour (along with my sister), is expecting her first child in September…

    Our Engagement Party

Last weekend, Alan and I got our family and friends together to celebrate our engagement. We only had limited weekends to do it on as my sister was off to Australia on the 13th August and Alan’s mum was off to America on the 17th. It was a little last minute but I think we pulled it off well. Once the date had been set, I got a bit excited and started thinking of colour schemes and decorative arrangements. Forgetting it was just an engagement party and not our actual wedding… In the end we settled for some flower pieces, candles in jars and mini buckets, and fairy lights once…

    Road tripping – Milton Keynes

It’s been a while since I last blogged, I’ve been slightly distracted and concentrating on other things. At the end of October I got made redundant and I am now on a manic hunt for a job. Not really ideal timing, what with Christmas coming up but I’ve decided to see this as an opportunity to really put all my effort into securing a design job. So if anyone knows of any more, please pass them my way! With my ‘working’ week now being filled with visiting recruitment companies and constantly checking Reed.com and GlosJobs, getting out of the house at weekends is a much appreciated break. Last weekend, Alan…
