A new skill with an old craft

A few Sundays ago we went for lunch at the Rose of Denmark in Hotwells. I understand the pub’s changed ownership a few times over the last couple of years and the food’s been on an up and down journey. The roast we had on that Sunday was one of the best I’ve had, anywhere, ever! It rivals the Rummer, and that set a high benchmark. Wonderful moist meat, crunchy roasties on the outside with a fluffy middle, well cooked and flavoursome veg, a rich gravy and huge Yorkshire pud’. Steph had the veggie option and that was also excellent. We’re thrilled to have this fantastic option on our doorstep!…

    A Beginner’s Workshop in Calligraphy

Wedding planning can take over your life. Up until recently I thought we were doing quite well; we seemed to spend a small proportion of our time planning the big day and had a good balance of other activities. However, with our impending nuptials just around the corner, it’s now part of pretty much every weekend. It’s also all we talk about to our friends: I didn’t want to be that person but it’s happened. You can’t help it though. When it’s taking up so much of your time, it’d be a lie to answer ‘What have you been up to?’, without mentioning our wedding. The good thing is it’s…

    Feeling crafty

When was the last time you properly unwound? With the stresses of work and daily life it’s hard isn’t it? For us we normally switch off by having a meal out, enjoying good food and drink. We were recently reminded though that there is another way; by doing something creative and learning new skills we completely immersed ourselves and lost hours in a design (and slightly Prosecco) fuelled blur. We went along to a taster session for a craft event coming to Bowood House and gardens in June. We started with a drink (or two), and a bit of cake; got to feed those creative energies right! Our first class…

Wild Worlds at The Wilson, Cheltenham

Last week James and I went along to the new exhibition at The Wilson Gallery in Cheltenham; Wild Worlds. An exhibition for young and old, or the likes of James and I that are somewhere in between. The exhibition is spread across multiple floors, starting at the bottom where children can let their creative juices flow and use all sorts of material to create pieces relating to the theme ‘Wild Worlds’. Continuing up the stairs you’ll find a room filled with wonderful ceramic animals, which explores how animals have inspired pottery forms and design during the 20th and 21st centuries. There are many stories and tales that can be taken…

    Homemade Christmas wreath

Soooo last week James and I may have put our Christmas tree up. We had a mixed reaction when I shared this information to the masses on social media, some have judged, others have praised. Perhaps premature however I am determined to get in the festive spirit early this year. I say this most years and fail miserably, but it’s my first Christmas with James, a child at heart just like me so it’s bound to be a lot of fun. I also love food that comes in pastry parcels and they are always flowing at Christmas. Right, so the tree is up – check. Next we need a wreath…

    Wedding decorations

I’ve just finished reading a book my mum bought me when I got engaged, it’s called ‘The modern girl’s guide to getting hitched’. The book takes you from dealing with never being able to pull men again right up to the big day and speaks honestly about all things weddings. What I didn’t agree with was how once planning gets rolling, your life becomes your wedding and when once it’s over you’ll wonder what you talked about before. However, since finding and booking our venue, I haven’t stopped thinking, dreaming, talking about our nuptials. I have become that person. I would say I’m going to try and change, but I’m…
